Badal Roy

I went to see Tabla master Badal Roy play at Snug Harbor on Saturday night. He had an amazing sense of timing, and flow was outstanding. He even tapped with each of his fingers in exact time with the beat. Badal said that Indian tabla playing is based around the concept of "singing the sentence, and then playing the sentence." The night was a great example of a player being one with their instrument. Here is a link to his bio: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:gcfpxqw5ld0e~T1

Bhangra

A musical style that I'm really starting to get into is Bhangra. Bhangra is a fusion of traditional Indian musical genres and Hip Hop beats.
Here is a link to my favorite BHangra show on the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/asiannetwork/breakdown/
The show gives you a great idea of what Bhangra sounds like today.
